The Design
Weddings in February are often dominated by red, pink and gold colour palettes coupled with hearts and roses to reflect the air of romance that surrounds this time of year. Whilst this is, of course, very appropriate for a Valentine’s wedding, many brides are looking for something less sugary with a more contemporary and original feel. So for this board I’ve combined striking shades of cherry red and midnight black with designer fashion and minimalistic decor to create an uber-chic and modern romantic design.
I see this wedding being held in a modern urban space, perhaps somewhere like Altitude 360 with stunning views across the city skyline. I imagine the bride and groom to ditch standard wedding traditions and instead have a much more informal and interactive event. Rather than a full day’s celebration I envisage a late afternoon ceremony followed by an elegant cocktail and canapé reception, with guests relaxing on black leather sofas before a funky band keeps them dancing into the small hours.
This concept is all about modern design, so I’d keep decorative accessories to a minimum and would instead use blocks of colour for a really striking effect. I’m thinking black table linen, red-wash lighting and tall centrepieces of red anemones and roses. I’d also extend the designer feel into the catering, and I love the idea of doing something totally different and experimental to wow guests, such as mini desserts dipped in smoking liquid nitrogen! Modern, decadent and glamorous – just what cupid ordered!
