The Design
As the start of 2010 has seen virtually the entire country transformed into the North Pole, this month I’ve decided to create a wintry board that celebrates the natural beauty of this time of year. When you’re freezing cold and battling through ice and snow to get to work it can be easy to forget that winter can actually be a very beautiful month, but snow-laden trees, warming log fires and crisp, frosty mornings can all make for a beautiful New Year wedding.
I imagine this to be a very rustic wedding, with a country barn venue and a relaxed, informal atmosphere. I’ve used a pure white palette to complement the wintry theme, with the natural wood and stone setting providing a gentle and warming contrast to the monochromatic colour scheme.
I’d keep the decor for this wedding simple and would use natural materials, like wood, stone and hessian, wherever possible. I love the idea of welcoming guests with hot chocolate and marshmallows, before providing a hearty meal of seasonal country fare. In the evening I imagine guests enjoying a traditional-style barn dance, with hay bales for seating and baskets of fluffy white blankets for guests to keep warm.
