The Design
I always think of May as a classic ‘English’ month, so when designing this board I was immediately inspired by the fun-filled celebrations that take place over the May bank holiday.
For this concept I imagine the bride to be a real country girl at heart, with the couple wanting a fun and relaxed wedding. I’ve opted for a bright colour palette, reflecting the colour of maypole ribbons, and envisage a marquee setting with a buffet-style reception and informal seating. For decoration I’d use brightly coloured bunting and ribbons, with small arrangements of spring flowers placed on each table.
Outside I’d place large hay bales for additional seating, and would leave one side of the marquee completely open for guests to wander out onto the lawn and enjoy the spring sunshine or play garden games. To reflect the May theme, I’d also hire Morris dancers and a maypole for additional entertainment, whilst a ceilidh and sky lanterns would form the perfect end to the day. Now let’s just hope the sun keeps shining!
