October: Falling Leaves

Autumn is well and truly upon us, and the trees are starting to give up their foliage in preparation for winter. Whilst I’m always sad to see the end of the summer, I love the rich colours that appear at this time of year, so this month I was inspired to create a board that brings plenty of warmth back to these cooler and damper October days.

The Design

I find that autumn provides me with plenty of inspiration for wedding design, mainly because of the rich and varied colours that appear in our surroundings. For this board I’ve opted for a really rustic feel, with a colour palette of earthy browns complemented by shades of dark aubergine and fig. I imagine this wedding taking place in a country barn, with guests sitting on blanketed straw bales at long wooden tables and plenty of candles adding warmth and romance to the surroundings.

I love the idea of incorporating the seasonal design by using leaves as the main decoration, and I can easily imagine the bride walking down a candle-lit aisle with crunchy leaves underfoot. I’d also use branches and leaves for centrepieces rather than floral arrangements, to further accentuate the rustic and autumnal feel. A ceilidh or barn dance would provide the perfect evening entertainment, and I’d round the whole day off with a firework or sky lantern display whilst guests enjoy hot chocolate and marshmallows.
