Last Friday I was very excited to receive a beautiful bouquet from David Austin Roses showcasing their bridal rose collection. The roses are unique in that they don’t have a classic petal arrangement, but instead have blowsy layers that look fabulous both in bud and as they open to reveal a rosette silhouette. Not only are they absolutely stunning, but they also have a delicate fragrance that is subtle enough for wedding arrangements without being overpowering.

There are five varieties of rose available, each with its own distinctive colour, shape and fragrance, and their style makes them perfect for a traditional romantic bouquet, as well as English country garden or vintage wedding themes. My favourite has to be Juliet – a large bloom with tightly-packed layers of petals in a soft shade of peach with a light, sweet fragrance.

Based in the West Midlands, David Austin supplies bridal roses all over the country. They provide an in-house specialist wedding design service, but you can also ask your florist to source your chosen roses directly from their wholesale department. Alternatively, if you’re particularly creative and are designing your own arrangements, you can have individual stems delivered directly to your door.
