In September, Helen could be found tripping through Epping Forest with Fiona from Fiona Kelly Ph otography and Liz from Blue Sky Flowers , styling a rustic shoot featuring some wonderful succulents and rather a lot of wood.

The varieties and colours of the succulents used really show-cased how versatile these little plants are and showed how a bride looking for something a little different could incorporate them into her day.

Posted in Ask the Expert , Wedding Flowers

Flowers are the one aspect of a wedding that I find a lot of my brides are most concerned about, and I have to admit that when I got married almost 5 years ago it was the only thing I really stressed over. For me this was because I couldn’t visualise what my flowers would look like on the day, and because I had to completely trust that my florist had understood my brief and could bring my ideas to life – I knew the overall look I wanted, I just wasn’t sure I’d conveyed it very well and as a result I was nervous about how my arrangements would turn out (in the end they were exactly what I’d asked for, and my Candy Bianca roses fitted perfectly with my colour scheme and wedding style!)

Lots of brides are worried about whether their flowers will look right on the day, so I recently asked one of my favourite florists, Liz Inigo Jones of Blue Sky Flowers , to offer her expert advice on what to think about when it comes to choosing your wedding flowers.

Something that I believe is a really important part of my job as a professional wedding planner is to hone my existing abilities and learn new skills that may be of use to my brides on a wedding day. As a planner you never know quite what’s going to happen on the big day – you can plan for most eventualities and have contingencies in place, but occasionally things happen outside of your control and you have to think on your feet and just deal with it.

With this in mind I was really pleased to have the opportunity to attend the UKAWP floral workshop earlier this month, where I had the chance to learn how to make an emergency buttonhole, corsage and wedding bouquet – skills that I’m sure will come in handy at some point in the future! Led by the lovely and incredibly patient Simon and Victoria of Euphoric Flowers , this was a really fun evening and I had a great time learning some basic floristy skills in the company of some of my favourite wedding planner friends.

I always advise my clients to make sure the flowers they choose are in season at the time of the wedding. Not only does this help keep costs down, but they also have a more natural and seasonal look on the day. Brides can sometimes struggle more with their choice of flowers for a winter wedding. It’s easy to feel restricted to traditional, year-round wedding flowers like lilies or roses when, unlike in spring or summer, there isn’t that much inspiration to be had from your surroundings. However, there are still plenty of beautiful blooms to choose from at this time of year that are perfect for a winter wedding – check out some of my favourites…

I recently came across this gorgeous wedding over on Once Wed, which was held in the Californian desert on an old Western movie set. I am loving everything about this wedding, but the bouquet of succulents particularly caught my eye…

As today is the first day of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show , I thought it only appropriate to write a post on flowers. I think floral arrangements really do make a wedding truly beautiful, and there are so many different blooms in all shapes, sizes and colours that you can be spoilt for choice! So here are some of my favourite bouquets and arrangements, celebrating the sheer beauty and magnificence of the humble flower…

Last Friday I was very excited to receive a beautiful bouquet from David Austin Roses showcasing their bridal rose collection. The roses are unique in that they don’t have a classic petal arrangement, but instead have blowsy layers that look fabulous both in bud and as they open to reveal a rosette silhouette. Not only are they absolutely stunning, but they also have a delicate fragrance that is subtle enough for wedding arrangements without being overpowering.

  • Spring Blooms

Spring is definitely my favourite season for flowers. With so many different colours, textures and shapes I always find myself brimming with design ideas at this time of year – from vibrant sunshine yellow to delicate cherry blossom pink , there are so many different styles you can go for.

I would always recommend using flowers that are in season at the time of your wedding. They’re more readily available and can often be sourced locally, meaning they’re less expensive and also more eco-friendly. Check out some of my favourite spring blooms that are just perfect for weddings…
