Thirty years ago to the month, a nine-year-old me stood in a queue for five hours with my parents to view the wedding gifts given to the Prince and Princess of Wales at St James’ Palace. Beyond the highlights of the platinum plated replica of the Royal Yacht Britannia with portholes of rubies, the tiaras and candelabra and the his and hers bathrobes and toothbrushes, there was a glass case containing Diana’s wedding dress and shoes. Already less than impressed with what she’d seen on the day on the TV, my mother was further disappointed with the reality, damning it out of hand with the verdict that the creases still hadn’t dropped out and it was far too yellow!

  • The Royal Wedding – Royal Wedding Fashion

The most talked about aspect of Friday’s royal wedding has to be what Kate has chosen for her wedding dress. Who’s designed it? What will the fabric be? Will it be a simple design or a grand creation? The wedding gown is, without a doubt, at the centre of the world’s media attention, but what did royal brides wear in years gone by?

Back in 1923, Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon (aka the Queen Mother) wore what was considered to be a simple royal wedding gown. The flapper-style creation was designed by Madame Handley Seymour, and was very much in keeping with the fashion at that time.

I stumbled on The Frock months and months ago, and I can now often be found procrastinating on there, nosing through pages and pages of beautiful vintage wedding gowns and fashion pieces. Even if you’re not having a vintage wedding or you can’t bring yourself to order a wedding dress without seeing it in person, it’s definitely worth having a nose around for inspiration. And if nothing else, you can’t really argue with spending a bit of down-time chilling with a cuppa and browsing some serious eye candy!

Sunday was the night of the 68 th Annual Golden Globes Awards, and the Hollywood A-list were out in force on the red carpet. As always the ladies’ outfits attracted plenty of attention (possibly even more so than the awards themselves!), and there were lots of gowns that really caught my eye as offering great inspiration for wedding dresses. So I decided to put together a list of my favourites and see what equivalent wedding gowns I could find.

First up is Angelina Jolie, whose long-sleeved emerald green Versace number was the epitome of style and elegance. I love Valentino Sposa’s ¾-length sleeve dress with an intricate lace overlay – perfect for a vintage or winter wedding…

  • Vintage Wedding Dresses from Timeless Vixen Vintage

Whilst browsing Polka Dot Bride the other week I stumbled across Etsy seller Timeless Vixen Vintage , and I have fallen totally in love with their collection of vintage dresses. The gowns date from the 1870s through to the 1970s, meaning there are plenty of different styles and colours to choose from.

What I particularly like about these dresses is that not only are they beautiful, but they allow a bride to express her own sense of style and fashion and I think they would be perfect for anyone looking for something a bit different for their wedding. I had a really difficult job, but I’ve picked out a few of my favourites to share with you here.

I am completely in love with the Spring 2010 collection from Vera Wang . Her dresses are always beautiful, but this new range really did take my breath away. Delicate layers of tulle and organza provide a modern twist on the classic A-line style, whilst sashes and bows add to the chic and stylish look.

Your wedding shoes are important accessories for your wedding attire, particularly if you are opting for a shorter dress and they will be on show for the whole day. Most brides tend to opt for ivory or white to match their dress, but recently I’ve noticed a trend over in the United States for brightly coloured shoes. Before you gasp in horror at the thought, take a look at some of these photos…

  • Fashion Focus: Bridesmaid Style

    Thursday, May 21st, 2009

    Posted in Fashion Focus

One dilemma that many brides have is whether to ask their bridesmaids to all wear the same dress, or allow them to choose their own outfit. By choosing a single style for your maids you guarantee the continuity of your theme and colour scheme, but you may struggle to match a single colour with different skin tones and hair colours, and could end up with your girls being uncomfortable at what you have chosen.
