A Wet Wedding Day

I think it’s fair to say that almost every bride wants the sun to shine on her wedding day, but also that every London wedding planner has experienced it. What, then, if the unthinkable happens and it rains? I came across this beautiful post over on Kiss the Groom, and it totally inspired me to write about how to cope with a wet wedding day. So how can you make sure wet weather doesn’t spoil your big day?

1. Check the weather forecast a few days before – if it is going to rain you’ll have time to put any contingency plans into place

2. Buy a large umbrella to use when walking from the car to the ceremony or reception, or when waiting for photographs. Think of it as an accessory rather than an inconvenience – you could even co-ordinate it with your theme or colour scheme, which would look great in your photographs

3. Provide umbrellas for your guests that co-ordinate with your colour scheme. Leave them with your ushers, or place in a bucket just outside the door to your venue

4. If it’s really wet wear trainers to walk from the car to your ceremony, and then put your wedding shoes on in the dry to avoid them getting wet and dirty

5. If your reception is across a wet field, wear wellies to avoid sinking in the grass and ruining your shoes. You could order a classic white pair, but why not have some fun and wear something bright and funky?

6. Make sure your photographer knows of alternative indoor locations for your photographs – you don’t want to be wasting time walking around your venue looking for a suitable backdrop

Most importantly, don’t let the weather upset you. This is your wedding day and nothing can spoil the love you have for each other.

Fun in the rain

As Elizabeth at Kiss the Groom says: “For the rest of your life every time it starts to rain, it will remind you of this wonderful special day in your life”.
