Favourite Winter Wedding Flowers

I always advise my clients to make sure the flowers they choose are in season at the time of the wedding. Not only does this help keep costs down, but they also have a more natural and seasonal look on the day. Brides can sometimes struggle more with their choice of flowers for a winter wedding. It’s easy to feel restricted to traditional, year-round wedding flowers like lilies or roses when, unlike in spring or summer, there isn’t that much inspiration to be had from your surroundings. However, there are still plenty of beautiful blooms to choose from at this time of year that are perfect for a winter wedding – check out some of my favourites…
Poinsettias are dramatic flowers that are perfect for Christmas weddings. Red is the most common colour, but they can also be found in white and pink. You can incorporate them into your bouquet, and they also make great focal points if used as centrepieces, in wreaths or archways.
Mistletoe is another flower that I just love to use for festive weddings. The bright green foliage is ideal if you want to add a touch of warmth to an all-white, wintry colour scheme, whilst the delicate flowers look beautiful entwined in bouquets, buttonholes and centrepieces.
Holly is a popular choice for adding rich greenery and splashes of red to winter arrangements. It’s ideal for incorporating into festive bouquets, centrepieces and wreaths, or for decorating fireplaces and staircases.
Now I know it can be used all year round, but eucalyptus is one of my favourite foliages, and I think it looks particularly beautiful when teamed with wintry grey or blue colour schemes. It’s a great alternative to ivy if you’re not having a Christmas wedding, and is also an inexpensive way of decorating your ceremony or reception space, for example by tying to chairs or twisting with battery-operated fairy lights and wrapping around large pillars.
The amaryllis is a beautiful, bold flower that is available in a range of colours throughout the winter season, meaning it isn’t just for Christmas! The large flowers make it ideal for dramatic bouquets, whilst the height of the stems mean it can also be used to create tall, eye-catching centrepieces.
Snowdrops are one of my favourite late-winter flowers. I love their delicate petals, and think they would be perfect for buttonholes or smaller arrangements dotted around the reception room, or even potted individually as favours for guests.

Lovely. Really beautiful flowers . I had a winter wedding and it was so nice to have Christmassy foliage and a Christmas tree. I think Winter weddings are quite special and I love that selection of flowers.
