Spotlight On...
Wedding favours are something that a lot of couples ask whether they should have or not. I personally think it’s a nice gesture to give your guests a keepsake of the day, but I also know that they can end up being ignored or forgotten about and consequently can feel like a waste of money. This is why I often recommend clients opt for something edible – guests love having something to nibble on after dinner, or they’ll tuck it away to munch on their way home later!
So today I’m delighted to welcome Tola Popoola from
Chocolat a Toi
. Tola specialises in creating personalised chocolate wedding favours, and is here to share some more information on her services.

Wedding Planner Q&A
In our weekly Wedding Planner Q&A we look at how to deal with common anxieties, questions and problems that often crop up when you’re planning a wedding, and today I’m offering advice on how to invite work colleagues without their partners.
We really want to invite our work colleagues to our evening reception, but we can’t afford for their partners to attend as well. We don’t really socialise with the partners outside of work, so we don’t really know them that well. Is it rude to only invite our colleagues and not their other halves?

One thing I think all couples should take advantage of is an engagement session with their wedding photographer. Sometimes called pre-wedding shoots or e-sessions, I love the idea of having photographs taken before your wedding to celebrate this special time and the love you have for each other.

Whilst browsing
Polka Dot Bride
the other week I stumbled across Etsy seller
Timeless Vixen Vintage
, and I have fallen totally in love with their collection of vintage dresses. The gowns date from the 1870s through to the 1970s, meaning there are plenty of different styles and colours to choose from.
What I particularly like about these dresses is that not only are they beautiful, but they allow a bride to express her own sense of style and fashion and I think they would be perfect for anyone looking for something a bit different for their wedding. I had a really difficult job, but I’ve picked out a few of my favourites to share with you here.

Design Concepts
Before becoming a
wedding planner
I used to be a research scientist, and even though I no longer work in this field I do still have a love of science. As a planner I’m always looking for ways to weave the personalities and tastes of my clients into their wedding, and when I spotted
this
beautiful celebration over on
Style Me Pretty
that was designed to reflect the couples’ scientific backgrounds, I just couldn’t resist creating my own science-themed design board.

Wedding Flowers
I always advise my clients to make sure the flowers they choose are in season at the time of the wedding. Not only does this help keep costs down, but they also have a more natural and seasonal look on the day. Brides can sometimes struggle more with their choice of flowers for a winter wedding. It’s easy to feel restricted to traditional, year-round wedding flowers like lilies or roses when, unlike in spring or summer, there isn’t that much inspiration to be had from your surroundings. However, there are still plenty of beautiful blooms to choose from at this time of year that are perfect for a winter wedding – check out some of my favourites…

Planning Advice
Last month, as part of our
Planning Advice
series, we looked at some general points to consider when choosing your
wedding suppliers
. Today we’re going to take a closer look at the important things to consider when looking for a wedding caterer. Your wedding catering can make or break your reception – delicious food and exceptional service will ensure your wedding is remembered and talked about for months to come. It’s also an area where you’re going to be spending the majority of your wedding budget, so you need to know that your chosen supplier will meet, if not exceed, all of your expectations.

Wedding Planner Q&A
In our weekly Wedding Planner Q&A we look at how to deal with common anxieties, questions and problems that often crop up when you’re planning a wedding. Today I’m offering advice on paying for bridesmaids’ outfits.
Do we have to buy the outfits for our bridesmaids? We’re on quite a tight budget and paying for their dresses means we can’t have some of the other things we would like on the day.
