Fashion Focus: Bridesmaid Style

One dilemma that many brides have is whether to ask their bridesmaids to all wear the same dress, or allow them to choose their own outfit. By choosing a single style for your maids you guarantee the continuity of your theme and colour scheme, but you may struggle to match a single colour with different skin tones and hair colours, and could end up with your girls being uncomfortable at what you have chosen.

Alternatively, you could provide your bridesmaids with some rules on colours, style and fabric and allow them to choose their own dress. This will allow each person’s individuality to show through, but you may feel uneasy about whether their choices will complement each others’ outfits and your gown.

If you are struggling with this issue, maybe these pictures will provide some inspiration…

Bridesmaids in the same colour and style can create a striking look for photos and tie in excellently with a more formal theme:

Alternating shades of the same colour or using different coloured sashes can be a great way of adding variety to a larger group of attendants:

Different dress styles in the same colour and fabric are an excellent way of ensuring your maids are comfortable without compromising on the look you want to achieve:

Allowing your maids to choose their own dress within a range of styles and colours that match your palette and theme is guaranteed to promote individuality (it is also a fabulous way of adding colour and looks great on photos!):
