I recently came across possibly the most unusual and inspired alternative wedding invitations that I’ve ever seen, and I absolutely love them – wedding tea towels! Instead of sending your nearest and dearest a traditional paper wedding invitation that gets stashed in a drawer (or thrown away by those less sentimental guests), you send a brightly coloured tea towel that will make a definite talking point and great keepsake.

Now I am totally in love with this idea (as are some of my clients!). I think the whole concept is brilliant, and having received a sample can vouch for the high quality of the product. So I decided to invite Karen Brown, the inspiration behind the wedding tea towel and founder of “ The Original Wedding Tea Towel ” company, to share her story.

So what exactly is a wedding tea towel, and how did you come up with the idea for your business?

A wedding tea towel is a save the date, invitation, favour or thank you for your guests printed on to 100% cotton tea towels! We came up with the idea for our own wedding in December last year – Ben is a designer and so we knew we were going to have to come up with something that would have the wow factor and then one day it just struck us! WEDDING TEA TOWELS! Our guests loved our invitations so much that we decided to share it with other couples, who like us, wanted to do something different, and so our business The Original Wedding Tea Towel was born!

Where do you get the inspiration for your designs?

Anywhere and everywhere! Recently we launched a newest design ‘A Quite Royal Wedding’ – I think you can guess where the inspiration for that one came from!

What design options do your have available?

We currently offer 8 classic designs which are shown on the website , or alternatively we can create something totally new and bespoke for the couple.

What are the benefits of choosing a tea towel over a more conventional wedding invitation?

The biggest benefit for me is being unique, making your wedding stand out and having your guest talk about your brilliant invitations, thank you’s or favours for years to come (and I can assure you this will happen!). Secondly, they are a more sustainable option – why spend the same amount of money printing on forgettable paper that your guests will throw away. Using wedding tea towels, your guests will always have a reminder of your special day… and no excuse to forget your anniversary!

How much does a tea towel cost?

You can either use the Classic designs at a one off cost of £55, the Royal Wedding design for £75 or we can create you a personal bespoke design at a cost of only £150. And printing costs start from £2.75 per tea towel based on a one colour print.
