I recently visited Nonsuch Mansion in Surrey , just 25 minutes from central London , and could not resist sharing it with you. There aren’t many venues that I completely fall in love with, but this is definitely one of them and I can’t wait for the opportunity to plan a wedding here.
London caterers Bovingdons took over the management of Nonsuch Mansion in 2009, and the house opened its doors for weddings last September. The mansion has been totally refurbished, the result being a stunning historical setting with quirky and contemporary features that create a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. Offered only on an exclusive use basis, you really do feel like you have your own country mansion for the day, making it the perfect setting for a classic English country wedding.
The beautiful setting and sumptuous decor speak for themselves, but what I found particularly appealing about this venue is the use of multiple rooms throughout the day. ‘New’ spaces open up to surprise and wow guests, and the interconnecting rooms mean that guests don’t have to be disturbed after the wedding breakfast to make way for the DJ and dance floor.
If you want to hold your civil ceremony at Nonsuch Mansion, there is a choice of two rooms: the octagonal Orchid Room can seat up to 120 guests, whilst the Rose room can seat up to 80. Both rooms have an array of period features, as well as beautiful views across the gardens.
After the ceremony guests can enjoy champagne and canapés on the lawn, before re-entering the house for their wedding breakfast in the Orchid Room. Once the evening celebration starts, the Rose room is opened up as a dance area with the adjacent library acting as the bar – I totally love the quirky Fornasetti ‘Forbidden Fruit’ wallpaper in this room!
At the far end of the house next to the library is a small snug, which is an incredibly versatile space that could be set up as a lounge area or used as a TV/games room to keep children occupied throughout the evening. However, my most favourite room has to be the beautiful dressing room upstairs that the bride and bridesmaids can use for their preparations before the ceremony.
The team at Nonsuch Mansion are all about flexibility, and I get the impression they will pretty much bend over backwards to make sure you have what you want. The catering is provided in-house and the example menus look divine. However, they welcome new ideas if you want to design your own dishes, giving you complete freedom to include your all-time favourite pudding or give your menu a funky ‘theme’.
If you’re looking for a beautiful venue that blends English history with a contemporary atmosphere whilst offering you the freedom to have the day you want, then I would definitely recommend a visit to Nonsuch Mansion. Exclusive hire costs from £2300 – £3200 depending on the time of year, but you need to book quickly because dates are soon snapped up! Having said that, there are a few last-minute dates for 2010:
